DSS (formerly FAHCSIA) funded Early Intervention Services

Autism - Aspberger - early intervention fundingAutism Understanding Pty Ltd is a registered DSS Early Intervention Service Provider for both the "Helping Children with Autism" and the "Better Start for Children with Disabilities" programs.

Please note: With the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to various locations across Australia, current DSS clients are being transitioned into the NDIA funding program as it becomes available in their area.  If you have not yet applied to DSS, and NDIA is available in your area, you may be directed to apply to NDIA rather than DSS.  If NDIA has not yet rolled out to your area, you are still welcome to apply to DSS for Early Intervention funding.  You can check whether NDIA has rolled out in your area by clicking on the link for your state or territory: ACTNSWNT, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, WA.

If your child is six years or younger and has an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis (including Autistic Disorder, Asperger's Disorder, and PDD-NOS) they may be eligible for up to a total of $12,000 (up to $6,000 in a financial year) through the "Helping Children with Autism" early intervention funding.

The "Better Start for Children with Disabilities" initiative provides up to a total of $12,000 (up to $6,000 in a financial year) of funding forearly intervention services for children who are aged six years or younger, and have been diagnosed with:

To access this funding, your child needs to have already received their diagnosis and you need to apply to DSS before your child turns six years of age.  For assistance with the application process, contact:

DSS Early Intervention funding will cease when your child turns seven years of age if the funds are not already exhausted.  DSS Early Intervention funding will also cease once your child has an NDIA funding plan in place (DSS funding should continue during the NDIA application process, to cover therapy while the NDIA planning process takes place).  DSS does not pay for autism diagnostic assessments. Developmental or cognitive assessments can be completed using DSS early intervention funding to assist with treatment planning/reviews and transition to school.

Please contact us on 02 4967 3363 to discuss a tailored package of behaviour support, assessments, and transition to school planning through either of these programs.
